OG 31. What Is In Our Wedding Contracts? with Attorney Shay M. Lawson-McKinley
Wednesday Oct 21, 2020
Wednesday Oct 21, 2020
Miss Rona has made all of us bride-to-bes look at our vendor contracts and assess what we can and can't do without incurring major fees. We had the pleasure of chatting with entertainment attorney Shay M. Lawson-McKinley about how coronavirus shifted her wedding ceremonial plans and how we should all review our wedding vendors and their contracts BEFORE giving them our coins. This was a great chat, especially for those without a law degree!

We talk to so many brides and couples that it only made sense for us to talk to our co-host Ashleigh and her fiance Edwin about how he proposed, their upcoming 10-10-2020 wedding and the plans they had if we lived in a COVID-free world. Toniah did a great job running the show on her own.

Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Christina Pressley Clark is a teacher in Boston and she recently got married over the summer. Because of COVID-19 and safety precautions, the Clarks had a very intimate outdoor wedding and streamed it on Zoom with the help of Wedfuly. Christina chatted with us about how she made her Zoom wedding a wonderful event for distant guests. Ashleigh was taking all the notes. Brides that are looking to get married while looking out for the wellbeing of their family and friends will love this one.

50. How the Pandemic Changed Wedding Catering with Steve Moore
Wednesday Sep 16, 2020
Wednesday Sep 16, 2020
The first question we asked Steve M. Moore from Affairs to Remember was "Are buffets dead?" and he gave us one of the best shows we've had in -- maybe ever? We discussed all the catering styles and how COVID-19 changed them and went deeper into the politics of catering/venue budgets and ...you just have to listen because it was a great one.

49. Their Joshua Tree Elopement with Jasmine and Peter Darbey
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
You don't often see Black couples elope. COVID-19 changed that, of course, but even our elopements weren't shown in mainstream publications or channels. Well, let's meet Jasmine and Peter Darbey. Their wedding looked like a styled shoot.
These two were planning their 2021 wedding in Mexico and then the pandemic happened. Within weeks, they ditched that plan and opted for a small elopement with friends in Joshua Tree, a place they'd never been to before. They talked us through those motions, their safety plan, and how they made this day so perfect. Also, look at Black people falling in love in LA and getting married at Joshua Tree -- representation is real!
Episode Special Guests:
Jasmine Darbey: @jasminesloanel
Peter Darbey, Jr.: @peterdarbeyjr

48. Creating Great Wedding Vendor-Bride Relationships with Sarah Nickens
Wednesday Sep 02, 2020
Wednesday Sep 02, 2020
The rapport between the wedding vendor and their bride/groom/client are essential to making the day go off without a hitch. We had the pleasure of talking to Sarah Nickens from SG3 Events about how vendors can keep their brides happy, the relationships between vendors, and why you shouldn't shade your vendors on social media. This was an informative one, people!

47. How to Properly Memorialize Your Loved Ones with Kathryne Carter
Wednesday Aug 26, 2020
Wednesday Aug 26, 2020
This episode is a downer. We were emotional during this convo with wedding planner Kathryne from Grace and Virtue Events because it's about the one thing no one wants to talk about -- death. We discuss very candidly many routes you and your partner can take to honor those who passed away before the wedding day. Take notes and grab tissue! Please tell us!

45. Your Photographer Wants You to Take First Look Photos with Ashley Strickland
Wednesday Aug 12, 2020
Wednesday Aug 12, 2020
One of our friendors chatted with us about first looks! Black brides don't always go for the first look because of tradition but there are a LOT of reasons why it is actually a good idea. Ashley Strickland of Ashley Nicole Photography (@ashleynicolephotosatl) talked to us about other reasons why brides don't go for this, how it allows brides to enjoy their cocktail hour and reception, and other first look-like alternatives to consider.

Remember Jenise from episode 4? Well, she's MARRIED NOW and our good sis came back to tell us all about her wedding day -- the good, bad, and sanctified! All in all, #LoveDoneWright! Her day truly seemed to be perfect and she told us how married life has been.
